Why Moen shows up so often
- Moen faucet parts in the quote
- Your own part works
Moen fixtures have been a common choice for builders and homeowners for decades, so a typical house in Alhambra or Temple City might have a Moen kitchen faucet, a Moen bathroom faucet and a Moen shower valve, all from different years. That is good news for repairs: the maker keeps many cartridges and parts available for a long time. The trick is matching the part to the faucet in front of you.
- Hot angle valve
- Cold angle valve
- Supply hoses up to the Moen faucet
- Trap that holds back sewer gas
- Drain stub out of the wall
Identifying your Moen
- Look for the Moen logo on the handle, the escutcheon or the base.
- Check under the sink for a tag on the supply hoses with a model number.
- For showers, the trim plate style and the handle shape help narrow the valve family.
- If nothing is marked, the cartridge itself, once removed, tells us the part. We bring common Moen cartridges to cut down on return trips.
Moen’s own site has a product and parts lookup at moen.com, which is useful when you have a model number.

Kitchen and bath faucet drips
Most single-handle Moen faucets use a cartridge that controls both flow and temperature. When it wears, the faucet drips from the spout, the handle feels stiff, or hot and cold no longer mix smoothly.
The fix is to shut off the water, remove the handle and the retaining clip, pull the old cartridge with a cartridge puller if it is stuck, and slide in the new one in the right orientation. Getting the orientation wrong reverses hot and cold, which is the most common mistake in do-it-yourself Moen repairs.

Shower valves
Single-handle Moen shower valves also use cartridges. Symptoms of a worn one: the shower drips after it is turned off, the handle is hard to turn, or the water will not get as hot as it used to. Many Moen shower valves have a pressure-balancing feature that keeps the temperature steady when a toilet flushes elsewhere in the house; when that part sticks, temperatures swing.
A new cartridge usually fixes it. If the valve body behind the wall is cracked or the wrong valve was installed years ago, replacing the valve is a plumbing job that opens the wall. See shower valve and cartridge repair.

Stuck cartridges
Hard water leaves mineral deposits that lock old cartridges into the valve. Forcing them can damage the valve body. We use the right puller and penetrating care, and if a cartridge will not budge safely, we stop and talk through options before anything breaks.
Repair or replace
Repair makes sense when the faucet is in good shape and a cartridge is available. Replacement makes sense when the finish is failing, the body leaks, or you want a different style. See faucet repair or replace and faucet and toilet repair.

A typical Moen visit
You text a photo of a dripping bathroom faucet and the handle. We reply with what we think is inside and bring that cartridge plus a puller. On site, we close the angle stops under the sink, open the faucet to drain pressure, plug the drain so no clip disappears, and pop off the handle cap.

After the swap we flush the lines with the aerator off, so grit from the work does not clog the new parts, then check for drips with the handle at hot, cold and middle positions. If the stops under the sink would not close all the way, we tell you and offer to replace them while we are there.

Matching finishes
Moen sells handles, escutcheons and spouts in several finishes. When one piece breaks, a matching replacement keeps the set looking the same. Brushed nickel and chrome look different side by side, so we confirm the finish from a photo before ordering.
Tub spouts and diverters
Moen tub-and-shower setups have a spout with a diverter that sends water up to the shower head. When the diverter wears, water keeps pouring from the spout while the shower runs, and pressure at the head drops. Spouts either slip on with a set screw underneath or thread onto the pipe. We check which, then replace the spout with a matching style.

Pull-out sprayers
Moen pull-out and pull-down kitchen faucets wear their hoses where they rub inside the cabinet. A leak under the sink during use, but not at rest, often points to the hose. Replacement hoses are model-specific. The docking weight on the hose also slides out of place over time; moving it back makes the spray head retract fully again.
Old two-handle Moen faucets
Older two-handle Moen faucets in hall baths still turn up in many homes. Each side has a cartridge, and a drip that stops when one handle is pushed tighter tells us which side is worn. Replacing just that side is a short job.

What to send
